    Probably keep him until we could go as far as possible in terms of success. Then sell him when we stop progressing and build another team. No doubt about it though, he wanted to go. THe joy on his face when he signed for them made that obvious

    The world cup taught Rooney all he needed to know about Football. And his asking to leave Manchester United should let you know what his main interest is now.

    And as a kid being repeatedly told he'd grow up to carry too much weight to make it as a top flight footballer, I can't blame him much either.


    While at Everton he earned his wage and people were interested in him. At the World Cup he made a fortune in image rights. More money than his wage could ever hope to compare too.

    Agents telling you can make a fortune is one thing, actually seeing the money first hand though is quite another.

    It doesn't take much to understand that Evertons fanbase compared to Man United's fanbase is going to generate quite a different level of image rights revenue year on year. As is playing in and being part of a winning team full stop.

    And what if England don't qualify for a world cup or Euro competition as we didn't in 2008... in terms of his making the most of his financial career while he can the Man United move made clear sense.

    But that doesn't mean that when offered a chance to earn insane sums of money and to tap into the middle east with City his allegiances changed much either...

    To be honest though, much as its a shame we didn't ge a huge sell on figure for his humiliating transfer to City. Man United giving him the 200 plus k a week does sort of feel like the right decision in terms of him staying there.



    But have now doubt. Rooney loves the cash.

    they had to sell him, its worked out for the best all round, the best everton player of all time imo.

    he did say moyes pushed him out which shows his love for the club if nothing else.

    Sell - at the time £27mil was worth more then  Rooney to us. We came fourth that season and lets face it we played long ball a bit. Rooney is too small for the long ball so the likes of Ferguson and even Marcus Bent was more productive to us.

    He thought Moyes had released stories to the press regarding his off the field antics that made it hard for him to stay. He accused Moyes of doing that in his book. Grannies.

    Moyes sued Rooney, amid rumours that a certain tabloid reporter who'd recently changed careers and got a job at a sports management company was actually responsible for giving the stories to the press, and Rooney settled out of court before the judge needed to force the newspaper concerned to reveal the source of the stories.

    You can blame who you like for making Rooney feel he couldn't stay in Liverpool... but even Rooney now knows it was Moyes leaking those stories.

    alan shearer could have played for any club in europe and won a lot more than he ever did at newcastle. now he's  legend there.

    thats the kind of player that is worth respect and admiration.

    Personally, I think that deep down the club wanted to keep him, but as soon as Rooney wanted to go they had no problem in selling him. I think the club knew that the best thing would be to sell him but they wanted to hold on for as long as they could, but as soon as he said himself that he wanted to move they used that as an excuse for selling him as they knew that they had to.

    Same story with Pienaar, Lescott, Arteta and soon to be Fellaini.

    To be honest, I don't think he had to sell Arteta or Lescott. I think the club only sold them because they wanted to go even though the club wanted to keep them. I think Pienaar should of been sold in the summer, but we had no option given his contract was up at the end of the season. But I think knew that we had to sell Rooney, and I think his transfer request was the prefect excuse for selling him.
