What do you think the difference was against Villa?

Just wondering what you guys think the difference was against Villa?

I personally believe playing Osman behind Cahill had a good effect on our attacking play, and kind of prevented the long ball. Neville can't get enough of it when he thinks Cahill has a target to flick on to.

everybody was played in their best positions (except cahill who was great anyway and always gets stuck in and likes a scrap)
But the main reason we were better for me was the fact that heitinga was out injured.
He is a complete liability in midfield-he shouldnt ever play in our midfiled again.
Fellaini is 1 of the best holding midfielders in the prem and then u need to have creative hard working attacking players round him-especially if u play only 1 upfront.
Heitinga doesnt work hard enough doesnt chase back gives the ball away too much reacts to slowly and isnt remotely creative.
Not really his fault as he is a defender not a midfileder.
We lack a bit of pace at times in our team but Baines (and soon hopefully Drenthe or Gueye) down the left and Coleman down the right give us alot of threat and stop opposition full backs getting forward alot (a big thing in the prem getting ur fullbacks to bomb on with alot of teams only playing 1 upfront)
Ossie is much better in the centre of our team and rodwell seems to be getting back to somewhere near normal.
Barkley needs to be getting on the pitch as much as we reasonably can (but he isnt ready for 90 mins every week yet)
and i would like to see us give some of the young strikers an opportunity-vellios looks a good young player but moysie doesnt seem to like to play young strikers.
I would play the same team against wigan except i would drop billy and put vellios in the side with Cahill supporting him.
Drenthe and straq and gueye all on the bench to give us some fresh legs in the 2nd half when we need them!

we had a 2 week break to get players fitter, and others like felliani had 2 international games, overall we were a lot fitter and sharper, particularly felliani,

Well the premise of the question suggests we were really awful in our other home game against QPR - I have seen many say we were but I do think it was an over-reaction. We should have scored a hatfull that day and were unlucky!

But we were still better against Villa. The return of Coleman instead of having poor Jack on the right, Jack being a bit more comfotrable and assured in the middle (even if he could have been a bit smarter on the Petrov goal), Jags rising to the occasion of getting the arm band, Cahill not playing in a deeper role, Beckford not playing alone up front, and Fellaini that bit fitter all combined.

Obviously we have the Blue Union to thank for the performance.

Their protest spurred the players on. Well done lads :)

    pretty much this^^^^

team looked a lot fitter and having coleman back made us less predictable (we depend on Baines an awful lot)......

be interesting to see if the players attitude is right against 'small club' wigan on saturday.......

I think no Neville made a huge difference. He's too slow and has no idea what to do with the ball and has no creativit ywith the final product. He is overrated and sometimes I think he's playing more for his own ego than doing it for everton- he's always giving his opinion about what we can do ect hes never out of the media.
and he's stilla manc fan going to watch them our opponents ffs he undermined his commitment as captain when he did that. he annoys me.

It was a 100% better than the blackburb performance...in patches we were good at blackburn..only a few patches mind..

against villa ..rodwell stepped up to the mark...fellaini held his position and paired up well with rodwell...

the midfield as a unit worked...

we made the pitch big and wide when we had the ball and compact when we didn't..

    Villa were poor....

two errors were the goals..very poor for both...

If i was moyes i'd be concerned about the number of goals we concede "needlessly"...silly errors...

I don't think it matters what game Neville goes to watch, a couple of seasons ago everyone went ape when Arteta went to O.T. sparking wild rumours he was going to join them.
As much as all the claptrap winds me Neville  is club captain and part of that is to do interviews.Still think Hibbo did a good job defensively on Saturday and Neville wasn't missed.
Overall I think the team had a better balance to it, Seamus was as positive as ever and it will be good to see Drenthe or Gueye on the left and Seamus on the right. The one thing we're missing, as everyone knows is a striker and that's gonna cost us a few points this season.
Looking forward to the Wigan game.

Really have to disagree. He doesn't have much pace but his positioning at right back makes up for that, the obvious example was the way he stopped Bale at White Hart Lane. His crossing is poor but his passing game isn't the worst. The idea he is playing for his own ego is preposterous. He was dropped at the weekend and I haven't heard slightest of him moaning about it and what he says in the press more often than not, is correct. If he goes to watch Man United is that really a big deal? He spent 10 years there, his brother was playing there and will obviously still have other connections there, but he supports Bury. Anyway, have you forgotten that he stepped up at the Wembley Semi Final and scored a penalty in front of United fans who berated him but still kept his cool plus he also put that huge tackle in on Ronaldo in a 2-2 draw and sprinted back to tackle Rooney on the goal line in the 4 - 1 win at Goodison.

He may have United running through his veins but Everton is everything to him at the moment and don't forget it.
