A pheasant ran across the drive into a field, hit a frozen puddle, skidded into the middle, the ice broke and it fell in the water. It was no' 'appy.

Skinned and gutted a hare once. Looked like there'd been a murder, blood everywhere. Rabbits are easy, they peel like an onion. Pheasants though, the guts smell unholy, puts you off eating them.

So the pheasant... Is it the smell that puts you off eating it? I worked in a chicken factory. After the smell in there i didnt eat chicken for months.

Rabbit ive never tried, but growing up my neighbours used to eat it. Smell was sickly sweet.

Everything smells when you gut it but after hanging the pheasants they just develop an overwhelming stink. Just don't like the taste either. Prefer Partridge and Quails are gorgeous. Rabbits quite nice, thing is I always feel guilty after shooting one. There's no real need to be eating them when you can buy food easily enough without killing it yourself first. Thing is , I've eaten loads of rabbits but have never actually bought one.

I need to try all of these meats. Had the chance to try horse at lake garda but bottled it.

Rabbit, do you have to be careful with that or is it obvious when they have myxomotosis?

Their eyes are usually a give away. Makro sell rabbits, about a fiver each I think. Horse is meant to be pretty tough and not that nice. Goat is lovely. Wild boars a good one, really nice. Have a look for a farmers market. Be prepared to get torn a new one price wise though.

If you get a hen bird, thats not too old, its alright. Give me a chicken any day though.
