ground sponsorship?

    With our current financial woes, how would people feel if a company offered to give us £30 million to sponsor our ground for 10 years?

    Would you be willing to take the cash on offer and take the name change of our ground to something like the Mcdonalds Stadium/ Red Bull Stadium/ Tesco Stadium? Or is the history of our club and the name "Goodison Park" worth more to you than cash in the bank?

    Can we ask English Heritage for help?

    I am not sure naming rights would work, it will always be Goodison no matter what people call it, see the Boleyn Ground or whatever it was they call the San Siro (though both of those might be something different, I am wholly ignorant)

    The fans will always call it GP but i wouldnt want it to change

    I would rather would followed the model of Emirates and combine it with a new stadium, shirt sponsor etc. I know 5 years ago EFC were in discussions with selling thee stadium name when the move was looking good.

    As stated already would definitely accept them get money to officially change the name of GP because to all everton fans it will always be GP and money is needed.

    Everton fans will still call it GP
    But the likes of Sky Sports, BBC and the newspapers will refer to it by its official name of Chang arena (or whatever) and that's what the company would be paying for! So it's not as out of the question as you might think!

    I'd be all for it - no room for sentiment!

    30 million over 10 years almost cuts our debt by 2 thirds and nearly gets us on a level playing field, if this were the case, do it!

    i'd agree with beano.......if the money's right, screw sentiment....the 'chang arena' doesn't even sound that bad.....I think we could do better than 30m over 10 years though......end of the day it'll still be Goodison Park to all us......

    Trouble is - what company would want to have its name attached to such an old stadium whose owners and supporters openly say they want to leave or demolish and rebuild?

    Lets be honest. Our stadium has history, age and it shows both of them evidently.

    That said, maybe a personal injury law firm would be interested!

    i dont think renaming would work commercially because it will always be goodison and a sponsor wouldnt pay much money to rename a stadium thats so well established under another name.

    If a company was to offer £30m though then yes i would take it-but couldnt see it happening!

    i dont think any1 would sponsor goodison at all its too well established and would never be known by any other name for most who know anything about football.

    And for people who dont know anything bout football it wouldnt be relevant anyway.

    It doesn't matter how established it is, the media would have to refer to it by the name it was changed to and that is what sponsors pay for. They don't care what the fans call it as long as it is getting namedropped in the places that matter.

    It's definitely an avenue that the club should look at exploring, the state of the ground doesn't matter as it's all about mentions in the media rather than anything else. That being said, you can do wonders with photoshop these days!

    You cant just say it is relevant because you would like it to be.
    No established stadium has been successfully renamed for significant money anywhere in europe.
    Sponsors obviously dont agree that its worth paying tens of millions of pounds for people to largely ignore the message they are trying to get across
    Also alot of ground deals tie in with shirt deals so that they are the same/related sponsor so unless your shirt sponsor wants to rename ur stadium that will potentially cause problems too.
    The truth is people keep talking about how Everton can raise millions more than we already do and the Facts are that we already do a pretty good job.
    Sure we can keep looking and people keep working for new revenues but i would say we are pretty much maxed out.
