the team captain is still an important role. he needs to have character, the respect of his fellow professionals and be able to motivate individuals both on and off the field.

Jags is the only  one i can think of that can do that.

Him, Jags or Distin would be a decent captain.

Or we could copy the Kopites and give it to our star man (Fellaini) so he doesn't leave.

So far it seems like Jagielka is everywhere and has that capability. He leads by example, which speaks volumes.

I'll disagree on this one and I'm american. I'm just going by my experience with watching hockey but goalies don't make good captains. Hard to lead the team when you can be on the opposite end. Also, don't the ref's speak with the captains in football too about penalties/calls and such? Better for someone other than a goalie imo.

Your comparing hockey to soccer? In modern history, the NHL has only had one goalie as captain and that was Roberto Luongo of the Vancouver Canucks who is by far not vocal and in no way a leader. Don`t tell me otherwise cause I am not only American but Canadian. So I know Hockey. Howard is a great pick like Buffon is for club and country, like Casillas is for club and country, Bartez was for club and country, like Nikopolidis was for club and country... Do I need to continue? BTW goalie in hockey, keeper in football kentucky...

Gibson been controlling the midfield and we've only lost once when he played (substituted).

So Gibson would be a natural captain, can speak to everybody, has that kind of attitude captains have I'd guess.
