An everlasting representation of ones self operating independently of the body? No, I suppose you could say its the thing that differentiates people, like a personality or character, the thing that makes you you.

There is something to me in that, all our brains are basically the same, however, our characters are all totally different. Character is not a physical thing, its produced in your brain but however it has no solid properties so, in a way, maybe.

Can it go on without a body, well' you'd think it impossible but there are elements of physics which nobody understands and maybe, just maybe it can.

Personally though, I wouldn't think so.

But are souls just limited to humans?

    And if so, why?

Well apparently I am it because I'm so good at buying presents.

Gave my wife her birthday iron and she looked at me and said

    ' you are soul '

    Which was nice.

i don't think anyone has a "soul".......because we're a highly intelligent specie, we have the capacity to have a conscience.......so we know the difference between right and wrong, its just up to our own personality (or conscience) to decide what choices to make.......other animals have lesser levels of intelligence, so have less of a conscience, so don't know any better some times, they just life to survive......but most animals etc do instinctively know how to raise their kids from birth and take care of them, so there is a level of conscience there with all species....if you want to call that a soul, then fair enough....

David Hume, as I recall, thought that was ****.  I am paraphrasing and condensing there.

Isn't our soul our core? Something that is profound inside us....our characteristics are the surface of who we are and how we portray ourselves on a daily basis.......where as our soul is the things that we keep deep with in, but it only manifests itself on occasion....usually after drinking half a bottle of jack or injecting truth serum............

or i could just be being a lunatic as usual :)
