New to EPL should I follow Everton

So im an Aussie who is interested in soccer (football). I followed the game alot as a youngster but have recently been getting back into it. As a youngster I followed Manchester United... but now Im old enough to know better. I have been looking over the history of a few teams and gathering information to make a difficult choice on which club to throw my support behind and I hae come here today to hear from any Everton supporter that wants to have a say. Aussie rules football is very different to your game however there are aspects that are similar and which are extremly important to me as a supported, things such as good sportsmanship and entertaining play style. My favorite Australian rules club is my favorite because of its proud history and the way it treats and respects its supporters, and though they havnt been the most successful club in the league they still have a large supporter base and celebrate every victory as if they had won the cup.

Now what I have read about Everton is that its called "the peoples club" I would like to know if that is a fair assesment. Does the club truly respect and apreciate its fans? I enjoyed reading about the history of the club and its founding and I could see myself following them but it is really important for me to know the true and honest answer to that question. I come from a working class area so any club that has that strong work ethic and not the poshy "we are too good for you" mentality does not suit me, however after reading the history of the club I get the feeling that it isnt that sort of club.

I would realy like someones input here, hlp me decide once and for all if this is the team for me.

oh by the way one of the other teams I was considering to follow was Wiggan so i will be following todays game quite excitedly hoping that their play styles will also help me decide one way or the other.

    Cheers guys

Well first off let me welcome you Childsy.

We are known as the peoples club for the fact that the chairman is a massive Everton fan and Moyes (our manager) came to our club and seen first hand how we as supporters love this club and everything about it.
All the players that have come through Everton have all said that the manager, chairman and supporters are one of the best if not best things about our great club.
We always as a club try and make the fans first in everything we do. We are the first team to open a school, we were the first to offer £5 tickets for kids (other teams charge upto £20).

So it is your choice to choose what club is best for you but know this you dont choose to be an Evertonian you are born one so if you look into your heart and you can only see one team in there and its Everton then that my son means you were born a Blue.

    Good luck in your search

Just like you I've picked a team some years back, and chose Everton. Once I got to know the club, I've always thought I was so lucky to have randomly chosen Everton, without looking at it's history. What amazes me since I started to support Everton is that we've been deserving the spot juuuust right behind the big guns, and that has made it exciting every season. You can be proud to wear a blue shirt, not 'cause it's winning trophies, but always fights up to the table, with some admiring players, which some have went to big clubs.

Got a wonderful manager, who've stayed in the club for more than 10 years now, one I'm grateful to have, even though it can get questionable with his tactics at times, but overall doing a great job with the budget that comes with this club.

Other clubs have certain respect for our club, so it's a goer if one is to choose this club.

Its strange being asked to "pitch" our club... I would genuinely just ask you to watch our games and listen to our fans... If that doesn't do it, then here are some famous quotes from people involved in football...

"Once Everton has touched you nothing will be the same" - Alan Ball

"Football was never the same for me after I left Everton and although I always wanted to win, losing never really seemed to hurt any more." - Kevin Ratcliffe

"I'd break every bone in my body for any club I play for but I'd die for Everton" - Dave Hickson

"I have been received more warmly by Everton than I have by Liverpool." - Bill Shankly (Liverpool manager)

"If they’re willing to have me, I’ll stay as long as they want me. It’s an amazing club, and it’s a place where I feel like I can compete." - Tim Howard

"I'm an Evertonian" - Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy and USA)

"I love this club, I have been here for six years and I have grown fonder every year" - Tim Cahill

“Everton have always been noted for going out on the pitch to play football. We got called the school of science quite rightly." - Dixie Dean

Have a look at this website: http://www.evertoncollection.org.uk/home

    And finally...

    There is a phrase:

"Evertonians are born, not manufactured. We do not choose, We are
chosen. Those who understand need no explanation, those who don't
    understand, don't matter."

You'll know if you're an Evertonian.

Everton are a real football club. Locally owned, British manager, good lads from our academy in the team as well as imports. A rare thing in the insane world of the premier league with its huge amounts of foreign capital and owners who have little real emotional connection to the sport or to the great traditions of the English game.

    Wow escla your an ****.

I didn't come here asking you to sell your club I just wanted to get a feel for the atmosphere from the fans and learn more about it from the fans poit of view. I didn't grow up around this game so my knowledge of it has been limited. Now for the record I did research a few clubs, I learned about their history, I watched videos including classic matches and recent matches I didn't just stroll in here hoping for someone to make up my mind for me. I was at the limit of what I could learn from reading official material and wanted an honest oppionion about the club from the people that matter.

Now that being said I find it interesting that in every sport and with every team you get that one **** supporter that makes you question your choice to follow that team....
