I think you could break down American accents into northeast, south, Midwest and west. Though Minnesotans crack me the f_ck up. Ever seen Fargo?

The only nickname I can think of would be chowds (new England area folk)

Paak the caar in the backyaad

Well Nashville is great, but about 2 1/2 hour away up in Kentucky there is also the bourbon trail.  You need to check into that aswell.
    :-bd

Also depending on what time of the year you make it, I'd happily take you to a hockey game.

Kentucky and Tennessee have a Appalachian dialect while Georgia and South Carolina tend to have a Southern Coastal dialect. Alabama and west to Louisiana have a Southern Gulf dialect. But with Midweserners like myself infiltrating Georgia, everyone is mixed up. I can pick out most American dialects, on a good day differentiating Brooklyn and Queens.

And if you are from England, You can likely tell Liverpool from Manchester from those fine Welsh folks in Cardiff. It just takes time. Now folks from Boston, like the ones who own the Reds, no hope of comprehending.

By the way, a proper Yankee is from the Norrtheast. Damn Yankees are the ones who move to the South and don't go home.

Lynchburg is a dry county, so other than any samples one might sneak in the distillery, I imagine you need to pick op your Gentleman Jack in Nashville. (A fine product indeed, when iced properly).

You are correct. Being somewhat nearby, I hear people frequently mention about how it is located in a dry county. Yes it does sound crazy and it is, imo.

Are you in Bowling Green then?
    Kinda know the area!

I may be over there again at some point in 2013 working for a week in Chattanooga. I'd probably stay on for another week for a bit of touring around and take in Nashville and Memphis (which I believe is an utter kip but I haven't been there yet). Would love to swing it so my visit coincides with the Masters at Augusta but may be too early in the year!

Yes I am in Bowling Green. 2 miles from the corvette factory that is a huge tourism thing for us. That and the corvette museum. If you like sports cars, or vettes really, these are must see attractions.

On Nashville, great town to drink and listen to live music on broadway. Always have a good time.

if you live in mid america and you take a 2 hour plane flight, your still in the usa.

in the uk a two hour plane flight can take you to a dozen different countries.

thats one reason why many yanks have little real knowledge of the world outside.

    same applies to aussies.
