How much does a football match stream take in MB?

Well LoveFilm says that i need a minimum of 3MB's per minute to watch an HD stream via my PS3, so given the quality of football streams i'd say 2MB's per minute, maximum.

I had no problem watching football streams via my mobile hotspot previously.

My broadband speed is poor, due to the pre-war telephone lines where I live. It very rarely gets above 1.2Mbps and usually fluctuates below this figure. Most footy streams are stop-go but, oddly enough, the "bigger" matches come through more reliably than the lesser games. For example, the manure game was very good (lower resolution than Iplayer notwithstanding), but the Leeds one was almost unwatchable. Fortunately, this coincided with the quality of the football!

Another oddity is, if I try two different streams simultaneously, the quality does not seem to be affected. You would expect that, if the "blockage" is my slow connection speed, loading it up would make things worse. It seems to be a combination of slow speeds at the transmitting site and the receiving computer, rather than simply being limited by one's own connection speed.

I can only think that, with the transmisson method of footy streams- the data is streamed from one firm to the next, then it goes out to the site which "broadcasts" it to us- there is marginal buffering along the line somewhere. When this coincides with a marginal connection speed at "my" end, there can be a coincidence of empty buffers, which causes the action to stop, momentarily.

My mate gets up to 8Mbps and his service is more reliable, although the resolution is still poor by TV or Iplayer standards. I would guess that a reliable connection speed of 2Mbps would be ample for most Premier League matches.

Ivdlit are you asking about speed of connection or the amount of data it will use out of your monthly allowance? i read somewhere that a match will use about 500mb data...

You have a laudable reason. I just can't find the inner resolve to get out of my chair. Even perfectly logical arguments like, "the bed is more comfortable", "the internet will still be there in the morning", "imagine how horrible it will be going to work tired"- I just prefer to put things off.

The last one, how much amount of data it will use.. I've only got 1000mb left till monday and thinking of watching the Goodison Park game on saturday.

It's almost a must-watch-game, when it's a highly probability that it's going to be an intertaining match from our side of view? :-D

500mb would do I guess. Otherwise, I'll just watch 2nd half or cut off at times along the match. (*cough* 'cause I share those mb with my gf)

If she loves you she'll understand... Sure she'd be fine if you explain "whats the point in having all this Everton merchandise if I can't watch the match?"...
