Should we get a new keeper in January?

Howard is 33. I know Fridel is like 40 and goalkeepers don't have to be as fit as outfielders but I think we need a new one. Mucha isn't going to make the grade, is he? I'd really like to see us go for Butland; he's the next Hart I reckon. Howard is getting on a bit and needs a young but good goalie to keep him on his toes so he can't ever put in a bad performance (which let's be honest, he did against Newcastle)/

Realistically, we can't get a keeper better than Tim Howard.

Think there's a good chance we'll get one well before January

Like who? Who's on a free that could possibly be a replacement for Howard? I think he's getting on a bit but I still believe he's quite good. The only way forward I can see is putting out £6m for Butland or some other young keeper with definite potential.

Well I was responding to your wish for a keeper to keep Howard on his toes and how you rightly said Mucha isn't up to it.

As for Butland. I'm not gonna swallow any of this _bullshit hype about him til I make up my own mind. Seen too many players hyped to high heavens just cos they're English.

We should definitely be on the lookout for a replacement.Tim is 33 and his reflexes are really starting to slow down.

Wow, the one Everton player that has given 100%, 100% of the time and you guys are complaining? I agree there should be a newbie training on the sidelines but Timmy Howard is the LAST player Everton needs to worry about!

Yup, it's the omg the sky is falling fan complex. Most of the time Timmy is world class.

He laid a stinker against Newcastle, no doubt. However, we've a got a top tier keeper. Bring in someone else. Howard will be starting in net for the next three years. Consider that when you make your bid for a backup mr moyes

When a keeper pulls a howler everyone knows about it but strikers do it all the time. Yes the 2 goals we conceded were bad but this is also the guy who has the highest clean sheet record at the club, saved at least 4 penalties last seasons and regularly keeps us in games. There is no one better than Howard in our price bracket.

I honestly have never rated him highly, he has his moments of quality like Ben Arfa on Monday but for that one save he made two mistakes, the ratio should be the other way, surely!

That said I think we have to stick with him for the time being though as a better keeper is out of our price range and he has not long back been given a 4 year deal, hopefully this is with an eye on Taudul coming through, the lad is only 18 and looks a really good prospect. My only worry is Moyes doesn't seem to trust young keepers, we've had a few go on to good careers, Ruddy is of course the stand out, that he has passed on whilst getting in stop gaps that never really filled the gap.

Borac is still available and as i said before as a compatriot of Taudul can only help him progress especially as he was his countries number one

As unhappy as I am with having Howard as our only real choice 'keeper.....I would be even less happy if it was Ruddy!

It would have been nice to have both of them though. But I guess you can't blame Ruddy if he wanted to move to a club where he would be first choice! So I think it probably wasn't as simplistic as Moyes passing on him!

I am not saying Ruddy is good enough to be our full time keeper or he or say Turner were either good enough to take over yet, but i would of preferred them to the likes of Westerfeld, Wessels, Mucha and Hiennaman last season
