    Settings>Network Settings>Internet Settings

Select wireless connection and leave everything else as is, unless you see something you want to change.

GO to settings, scroll down to network setting and press 'x'.......scroll down to internet connection settings and press 'x'........press 'x' where it says 'adjust settings for connection to the internet....blah blah'......where it says 'select a setting method' press 'x' on easy.......you then choose how you are connecting wired (must be connected via an ethernet cable) or WIRELESS (which is what i use) press 'x' when you have chosen......press 'X' on scan and it should bring up the name of your router so press 'x' on this one.....then move across by pressing the D-pad to the 'right' it will say 'WLAN SECURITY SETTING' and you have a choice of NONE...WEP......or a longer number at the bottom....choose the bottom one and press 'x'............it will then ask you to put in your WPA key, which should be on a sticker on your router somewhere, enter that, and you should be connected.

If you are using a wireless or wired connection you can put your ps3 in DMZ mode. It's basically for better connection. Ideal for gaming and movie's etc.

You create a new connection, go to network settings etc. Choose custom instead of easy and put in your details. When you get to 'Address Settings' choose custom. Next page should be 'IP Address Settings' choose manual!

First one is : IP Address (You need to give your ps3 a static IP) So choose 192.168.1.101 (What i use) Or you can use 105,106,107....etc.

Subnet Mask - Is always set to 255.255.255.0

Default Router - Is the internal IP Address of your router. Should be 192.168.1.1 (Check in command prompt to be sure, type in 'ipconfig' to see your's.

Primary DNS: Same IP Address as Default Router.

Secondary DNS - Same IP Address as Default Router.

Next stage: MTU set as automatic. Proxy server: Don't use unless you have one. UDNP: Enable

Click ok bla blaa, but don't test the connection yet. You need to go to your router/modem gateway. Type in 192.168.1.1 in your internet browsers address bar. (Again check your's by entering 'ipconfig' in command prompt.

You modem may or may not have DMZ, if it's a couple of years old or new then it will..older ones may not.

You need to enable DMZ on your modem, you enter your ps3 static ip which you chose earlier ie 192.168.1.101.

If you have problems with your modem just google your make and model number along with DMZ and you will find out how to do it. It's usually straight forward. I got a new modem recently and it was built in, so all i had to do was the ps3 part and did nothing to my modem. Make sure UDNP is enabled on your modem/router.

You can just google 'PS3 DMZ' for lot's of guides on how to do this if my attempt of explaining is crap. It's well worth the effort tho. SortS  out online gaming problems etc. Every time you connect to the internet your ps3 gets a new IP. This way you use the same IP all the time and all ports are open for your PS3.

Holla if you have any problems bud!

Edit: Forgot to mention when you finish sorting out the modem. Test the connection on the ps3. If fails just turn everything off, modem and ps3..turn back on and test the cconnetion you made.  Bob's your uncle and f annys your aunt!

I'd make sure you have a spare computer handy if i were you though. The first time i tried it i managed to mess it up and my internet connection to my PC locked, i had to use the iPad to sort it out. Very scary for a novice.

Yes can be scary for a novice but if that happens you just reset your modem. Should be small hole at the back, hold it in. Or there could be a reset button on the back ha. If you have trouble and wasting too much time, just do a new connection again by choosing easy instead of custom.
