Another new fan from the US!

And, much like efc_fan_from_Kentucky, I am located in the Midwest of the US, just north of the aforementioned, in Indiana.

I began watching a bit of EPL in 2005 through friends who would gather on a week night for a recorded match and the review show. After the 2006 World Cup I was definitely hooked and decided to pick a team. Here's where you may begin to question my logic... (ha.)

At the time, my choice was.. (*winces*) Wigan. I have a blogpost pertaining to the specifics of 'why' but will forego that for now.  Suffice to say that appreciating their underdog stature, relative newness to the EPL, working class area, and decent home kits, were all reasons why I chose Wigan. At the time I felt that Wigan represented where I was at that time.

However, at that time I also had not taken my selection lightly and had done a fair bit of research into the histories of the then EPL clubs. The only other club I was drawn to was Everton. At the close of the summer transfer window of the 2011-12 season, and with the wisdom of experience, I knew that season was my last as a Wigan fan (another blogpost).

Much as a player on transfer day may find himself considering another club, I too found myself looking for a new and more established club, with great tradition, history, and support. Regardless of the season's outcome, I wanted to find a new, better, more permanent home. Everton is the place.

I hope you will welcome me as I look forward to visiting the Blueroom often this season and grow into becoming a Blue!

Others may give you a bit of stick for switching teams, maybe not, but as long as you found the right path in the end, it was a worthwhile journey.

    Welcome to Everton mate!

Thank you! I'm sure I'll enjoy it! With regard to Wi.... er my former club, I figure it best to be honest upfront and yes Deus Ex Machina, I feel this is right path. Only wish I had made the right decision 6 years ago and saved a bunch on anxiety. :)

Actuall, Doobie Monster, I'd agree with that statement with the proviso that were I a glory-hunting so-and-so, I would've put the 'Big 4' in a hat and chosen from those which seems to be what happens in the US although with the newly expanded coverage, Football is finding a quickly growing home in the US and more fans will be eager to learn more about all the clubs.

The whole system of promotion and relegation is fascinating to many American fans who favor a more pure form of sport. Our Professional leagues would do well to have a similar system, in my opinion. Another chat for another time perhaps.

Right-o! I will have a personalized avatar at some point..

Also, I am only slightly familiar with Blueroom's jargon, English slang, etc, etc. so forgive me if I'm not totally up to speed and ask for a clarification from time to time.

Thanks for the welcome all and as the transfer window closes, I am looking forward to getting on with the season in earnest.

Which US teams do you support? I'm Red Sox (before they won the world series), Bears and Penguins. An eclectic mix to say the least lol.

Not much of a fan of US sports anymore really although American Football would be the Indianapolis Colts, NBA and baseball, have given up on. Can't bear to watch the lot so I can't say I have any favorites.  I do enjoy autosport - Indycar, LeMans, Grand-Am, F1, (NOT nascar). I live in an area that's closer to Chicago so there was much of that influence on TV growing up. Bears are always on TV here, Black Hawks for hockey, been to many Cubs baseball games as that oldest of stadiums is in a neighborhood and a terrific place to go eat, drink, and be merry and not really watch the game.

I do enjoy MLS much more recently as the payroll restrictions have loosened a bit and there's better talent coming in. Will be great to see that league continue to grow. Chicago Fire fan here. Would've rather Cahill had come to Chi, but I'm glad to have him here in the states anyway.

Any good youngsters coming through in the MLS?

    Thanks evertonmarc!

I can only say that while incredibly comfortable inside a domed stadium for football, the truest experience for you might be to see the Vikings vs. the Packers or Bears in January :).  Those are some of the most classic and long-standing rivalries in Am football. If I can ever provide any advice on trips to Chicago, I will, as I am most familiar with Chicago and Indianapolis.

Also, I've been to the Indy 500 31 times, so I'm more than qualified to provide any advice on that event.  I need to find efc fan in Kentucky and get some Kentucky Derby advice settled..

A very few youngsters seem to come from the college ranks, the rest are central and south american talents as yet undiscovered it seems.

Thanks all! Yes Galway, I live 'in the shadow of the Golden Dome' abt 20 minutes away, so grew up with that amazing college American football tradition. Hope ND gets it together one of these years although it seems anymore the college that cheats the best wins until the truth comes out a few years later after all the players have gone on to the pros.  College football in America is just as big of business as many professional sports and it's ruining the spirit and purpose of athletics in university in my opinion. Basketball isn't far behind.
