Whilst I have always thought this was never something to be privatised, more so to a company like ATOS or Capita (or indeed G4S), this sums up why:

40% of the appeals succeed.  So basically, the practitioners get 60% right of the ones they stop.  I could do that.

Apparently 12 of their Doctors* are at risk of being struck off for not putting patient care first.

It beggars belief, do they not consider quality of life?  If he, and I hope he does, fully recover, then yes, he can contribute more fully to society.  While he is still very unwell, let the lad be, and let the state take his burden.

I used to do stats for the DWP.  When the record low 800,000 were unemployed, there were 4,000,000 claiming other benefits and not employed (government spin).  That is a huge proportion, and yes, a huge drain on the state.  So I agree, when people have a bad back and are working cash in hand, or are faking something, sort them out.  Cancer, well, it's fairly evident that they're not doing so well.  There was a story about a guy with advanced parkinsons being told he could do some work.
