Cmon Bill give him a call. This man is full of fire and passion. Worth a punt. Would hate to end up with Mcleish, O'neil or some other relegation dodger.

Watched Saturday's ManC game, you showed great heart and skill !

Went to this website afterwards, read some of the club's history (I've been interested in 'soccer' most of my life, but only started watching the Premier League broadcasts recently).  Got curious about:

 Who was Goodison ?
The church at the corner of the stadium - was it there originally and the stands built up around it, or was it built there later (come for the services, stay for the match ;-) ) ?
Several times the Everton  FC is referred to as 'the Toffees'.  How did that nickname come about ?

All the best, John

New EPL fan (Soccer in general) from MI (USA) http://www.evertonfc.com/forum/discussion/14267/new-epl-fan-soccer-in-general-from-mi-usa Sat, 22 Dec 2012 21:12:36 +0000 scottdware 14267@/forum/discussions
I'm a new EPL fan, from Michigan in the USA. I have been getting into Soccer/Football more and more over the past couple of years, and just recently started to watch a lot of the EPL. Some of the first matches that I saw on TV were when Everton was playing. My goal was to eventually pick a club to follow/support, and I've found myself really getting into the Blues :)

I liked reading about the history of the club, the fans/community seems amazing, and so does the whole "blue collar" type feel (no pun intended).

So, I just wanted to say hello to all of you, and forgive my ignorance in advance if you see me asking weird questions as I'm still a newbie!

Hello from Germany http://www.evertonfc.com/forum/discussion/13927/hello-from-germany Mon, 10 Dec 2012 22:43:23 +0000 mirkoc407 13927@/forum/discussions
My name is Mirko (not so difficult to guess from the nickname...), I'm from the greater Cologne area in Germany and called by friends "a British trapped in a German's body". I listen to a British radio station on the web, I'm building a British model railway, I like cooking British and during the last 3 years I went at least on a short city trip to the UK once a year. After a friend of mine raised my interest in football some time ago (before that I was only watching ice hockey and motorcycle racing) it was only a matter of time until I would end up as fan of a British team.
The first one was Arsenal, probably something you must go through when you are not affected by a local team from the beginning. Like nearly all foreigners or German kids from the countryside will start here with Borussia Dortmund or FC Bayern Munich I have the feeling that the way into English football for the inexperienced goes through Chelsea, ManU or Arsenal. After some time you will get the picture of the whole league and finally find the right home. In Germany for me it became Fortuna Duesseldorf after I went to the stadium with a friend and was caught by the unique atmosphere there. In England it was Everton FC for many small reasons that make up the big result, difficult to describe.

Cheers
Mirko

I began watching a bit of EPL in 2005 through friends who would gather on a week night for a recorded match and the review show. After the 2006 World Cup I was definitely hooked and decided to pick a team. Here's where you may begin to question my logic... (ha.)

At the time, my choice was.. (*winces*) Wigan. I have a blogpost pertaining to the specifics of 'why' but will forego that for now.  Suffice to say that appreciating their underdog stature, relative newness to the EPL, working class area, and decent home kits, were all reasons why I chose Wigan. At the time I felt that Wigan represented where I was at that time.

However, at that time I also had not taken my selection lightly and had done a fair bit of research into the histories of the then EPL clubs. The only other club I was drawn to was Everton. At the close of the summer transfer window of the 2011-12 season, and with the wisdom of experience, I knew that season was my last as a Wigan fan (another blogpost).

Much as a player on transfer day may find himself considering another club, I too found myself looking for a new and more established club, with great tradition, history, and support. Regardless of the season's outcome, I wanted to find a new, better, more permanent home. Everton is the place.

I hope you will welcome me as I look forward to visiting the Blueroom often this season and grow into becoming a Blue!

My name is Chris, and I hail from the tiny hamlet of Mariposa, California, near Yosemite National Park.  I just signed up for satellite TV service about a year ago, and our provider covers the EPL.  I wasn't really familiar with any of the teams at the time, other than knowing some of their names and having a vague idea of who some of the top teams were.  Gradually I began to form opinions about which teams I liked or didn't like, and, after about half a season of viewing, I settled on Everton as my favorite.  What attracted me to the team was their verve, team cohesion, and the sense of really trying to make something special without having the luxury of an endless supply of cash, like certain other unmentionable Merseyside teams have (ahem).  I am now hooked on the Blues!  Having played striker in my younger days, I am thrilled about the recent run of scoring since the arrival of Jelavic, and I hope that will continue into the next season.  Perhaps some shiny new hardware is in the offing?

Warm regards,
Chris

Since Stuxnet..... http://www.evertonfc.com/forum/discussion/3556/since-stuxnet..... Wed, 14 Dec 2011 12:54:29 +0000 ToffeeCup 3556@/forum/discussions Thought I'd try and bring a subject I find interesting to you shower on the BR....

Software viruses and malware....used to be an issue for old people failing to use the internet or online banking without the proper precautions....but now the world has very much changed.

Governments are now using weaponised software viruses....might sound futuristic....but its very much right here right now.

Stuxnet was, it is widely believed, an Israeli attack on an Iranian nuclear facility which is believed to be enriching uranium for the purpose of making a nuclear weapon.

Stuxnet first appeared in the world in June of 2009. But given its method of deployment, the nature of the selected target and the process by which the virus replicated itself, it would have been around six monts to a year longer than that. Also, experts predict that it would have taken a year and around a million USD to create.

Further info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuxnet

Since Stuxnet... there has been a whole load more of this sort of "state sponsored" stuff coming to light.

On a slightly different note the US has commisioned software that builds and controls a virual army of online civilian personas complete with social media accounts and historically accurate online backgrounds...... whose for another uprising in the Arab Spring?

But the latest one is a bit of an eye opener.....mainly because the yanks are VERY good at this sort of thing.....a virus found on US military drone planes flying over afganistan:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/oct/09/virus-infects-drone-plane-command

I just love the quotes from the three US network security specialists at their base in Nevada:

"we keep wiping it off, but it keeps coming back"

"we think its benign, but we just don't know"

"its getting a lot of attention, but no one is panicking....yet"

These are some of the viruses and/or state sponsored cyber attacks that we know about....just imagine what happens that we...or worse, the government concerned...are completely unaware of...
