You did great things for this football club. You took over 11 years ago when we were perennial relegation battlers and a bit of a laughing stock. Now we're a team that expects to be challenging for Europe every year and a club that's now highly respected by the rest of the league. You your passion, honesty and energy made an instant connection with the fans and when you called us the "Peoples Club" you truly hit a chord. You worked wonders on a budget - getting the best out of some average players and making some remarkable bargain buys. Under your leadership we qualified for Europe, reached an FA cup final and became the best team on Merseyside - all things that we hadn't seen for years. You gave us hope and ambition and you gave us back our pride.

These are the reasons that we worshipped you Mr Moyes and there was even a time that many of us thought you really could be our Ferguson or Clough or at least the next Kendall! Unfortunately as the years passed your tactical deficiencies became more apparent. Negitive formations, baffling team selections and dithering subsitutions really began to grate. Worst of all was the constant choking in big games. Sure there were some great, inspiring wins against some of the leagues best teams but i'm talking about FA Cup finals and Semi Finals, European games and derbys. These are the games when the pressure is really on and you have the chance to achieve something big. It wasn't so much that we lost these games, it was the way we played in them. Our most nervy, negative performances of the season would come in these games. The last straw for me was the FA Cup Semi final loss to one of the worst Liverpool teams in memory. We went 1-0 up then just sat back like we were scared of them. WHY? What a missed opportunity to not only get to a FA Cup final but to finally get one over our biggest rivals in a huge a game. It still hurts................and I got to the point where I wasn't even that surprised by the performance in the 3-0 loss to Wigan this season with Wembley looming. 

To sum up - It's hard for me to get a definitive verdict about exactly how good Moyes is because he had great qualities and big weaknesses.  I guess in a way, I fell out of love with Moyes in the last few years but that doesn't mean I will forget or that I don't appreciate everything he has done for us. The big question - "what would he achieve with a large transfer budget?" will be answered soon enough. It's just a shame it's with a different club.
