another slow start or dog fight?? http://www.evertonfc.com/forum/discussion/2660/another-slow-start-or-dog-fight Sat, 05 Nov 2011 15:14:36 +0000 davoefc 2660@/forum/discussions We hear on every match day about our continued slow start to each year, but are we looking more as a team who will be fighting to stay in the prem league??

and investment would as we know need to put money for a new stadium plus millions more in a team who lack creativity, play school boy football (slow, boring/predictable, side to side then long ball to one man up front football), and a team who are getting older and it starting to show.

what are your thoughts??????

I was trying to figure out how it would be possible for him to travel from Los Angeles to Newcastle, a distance of 8,200 km, in time for Saturday's game.
It turns out the Everton match will have Derek Rae in the ESPN broadcast booth, so I am no longer concerned about the logistics of ESPN announcers.

(By the way, it is normally eight hours time difference between the U.K. and Los Angeles, but the U.S. is still on Daylight Saving Time until Sunday, so just for this week it's seven hours difference.)]]>

Everton keen to bring Pienaar back to Goodison? http://www.evertonfc.com/forum/discussion/2532/everton-keen-to-bring-pienaar-back-to-goodison Mon, 31 Oct 2011 04:29:38 +0000 Knoxy2001e 2532@/forum/discussions http://tinyurl.com/64lyut4

"Everton boss David Moyes is set to make a SECOND attempt to take Steven Pienaar back to Goodison Park from Spurs.

Toffees boss Moyes tried to land the South African midfielder on loan in the summer – just six months after selling him to Tottenham for £3.2million.

That bid was rejected by Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, but it is believed Everton are ready to go back for their former player when the transfer window opens in January."

I reckon he's as good, if not better than Arteta. It would be great to have him back, and he's not doing much as spurs!

Speculation has grown in some quarters over recent weeks suggesting Mumbai-based conglomerate the Jain Group are ready to inject millions into the Blues.

Jain, construction giants, who also have vast energy and property interests in their homeland, are looking to expand to the UK, and have visited Merseyside to scout for investment opportunities in the city.

The ECHO understands they were introduced to Everton after learning of their ongoing search for a new stadium and wealthy owner, and have held talks with chairman Bill Kenwright at his London office.

But sources close to the club insist the company are one of several the Toffees’ owner meets on a regular basis, and have yet to do anything to convince him their interest will materialise into anything substantial.

Reports elsewhere today suggested Jain are exploring whether to loan the Blues money and leave Kenwright in control, or complete a full takeover.

Kenwright was present at Goodison as usual on Saturday for his side’s 1-0 defeat by Manchester United on Saturday, and was joined in by fellow director Robert Earl.

US-Based Planet Hollywood magnate Earl is a rare presence at games due to work commitments across the Atlantic, but is believed to try and make the journey for home fixtures against United and Liverpool, along with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

John Heitinga, meanwhile, admitted Everton’s form against the Premier League’s top clubs has suffered a worrying dip so far this season – but insists they will recapture their defiance.

The Holland international started his second consecutive game in the 1-0 defeat by Manchester United on Saturday, as the Blues dropped to 16th.

But although Heitinga, 27, accepts the gap has widened between Everton and the top four, he says their majority possession and work ethic deserved greater rewards against Alex Ferguson’s side.

He said: “Of course they have the money and the better players. But if you consider how much money they spent on their team, and how much money we spent on our team then the gap is not so big because we were the better team at times.

“But you have to be realistic, and the top four is better than the rest at the moment. At the moment the gap seems wider.

“Last season and two seasons ago we would beat all the big teams here, and so far we haven’t got one point against the big sides. So it’s for us to fight a little bit harder, and we’ll see what’s going to happen in the future.

“The United game was one of our better games recently. We had a lot of possession and created a lot of chances, but we were a little bit unlucky because they had only two or three shots on goal and scored a goal. We had plenty of chances but just couldn’t score.”

Heitinga, who joined from Atletico Madrid in summer 2009, believes referee Mark Halsey denied Everton a legitimate 93rd minute penalty during Saturday’s game, when Magaye Gueye appeared to be fouled by Patrice Evra.

“It was a big opportunity when Magaye came into their area, and in my eyes it was a penalty kick but OK you have to accept the decision of the referee,” he said. “We needed to be a little bit lucky in those situations.

“The league table doesn’t look great, but if you see the teams we’ve played against in the last couple of weeks, you know we need to win in the next few games. The start last season was worse than this season.”

Asked if Everton would benefit from signing a striker in January, the defender said: “Of course, but then you need money.

“We have got a good squad if everybody is fit, and in the game against Chelsea we showed that the form of the team and the spirit is good. Everyone was trying to win every battle and show the crowd that we wanted to give a good performance.

“I was out for a bit with a small injury, and I’ve been back in training for two weeks and I’m feeling fit and well. I’m looking forward to playing, and I’m still happy to be playing for Everton because it’s great to be here. If you see all the fans, it’s not for nothing that it’s the People’s Club. The spirit is good and I want to give a little bit better for the team, and show my experience for the team.”

Heitinga insisted that he is relishing the battle to establish himself in the heart of Everton’s defence ahead of Sylvain Distin, who was a last-minute injury withdrawal on Saturday, and Phil Jagielka.

Jagielka had only managed to play after undergoing a pain-killing injection on one of his toes, where he has suffered a hair-line fracture.

And Heitinga said he had not become unsettled or demoralised by starting the season out of the team, something which has simply strengthened his desire to reclaim a place in Moyes’ back four.

“I’m a professional, and the best one needs to play,” said the former Ajax man who played in the 2010 World Cup final for Holland, and remains a regular for his national team.

“It’s up to me and the other players to show the manager we are the best and make it harder for him to pick the team.”

"Third-party ownership is a practice banned in England but prevalent in South America and parts of Europe.

Essentially, companies buy a percentage of a player in the hope that, if he becomes a star in the future, that percentage can be sold for a large profit.

Clubs selling a player they only part-own receive less of the transfer fee - but, on the upside, if they are partnering with a company to sign a player, they would pay a lower fee initially.

That could benefit a club such as Everton, who are struggling to find funds to buy players.

With limited resources of their own, a third party would pay the bulk of a transfer fee, allowing the player to turn out for the club over the course of his contract."

Everton supremo Bill Kenwright is in talks with the Jain Group – a wealthy Indian company – about becoming his club’s financial saviour.

The Mumbai-based conglomerate are huge in their own country, with energy and property businesses, and they now want to expand into England.

Jain have their sights on Everton as a possible project, pumping in cash for a new ground.

Leading officials from the company are looking into ways of buying Everton or lending them money, with Kenwright kept on in some capacity – and boss David Moyes given a boost in the process.

The Toffees have been on a tight budget for a few years and Kenwright is actively looking for a buyer or backer.

Great performance on sat, shame about the atmosphere guys, was very quiet, the quietest Goodison has been for a long time.  Got to say, we at least deserved a draw, we kept at it and dominated the second half.  last two performances have been very encouraging but two defeats. We gave United two much space for the 10 to 15 mins before the goal but after that we were the better team.  Was a good team performance, lets just give the boys the support they deserve,, lets liven up Goodison!!!!!
