My worry against stoke

Not sure about you but I think that could be playing to Stoke's strength. I don't worry about Jags too much because he can hold his own in the air but the rest could really struggle to keep Crouch, Jones and Walters quiet for 90 minutes.

He's admitted we need a striker - but not really discussed the ones we have. He's pretty much said he expects 15-20 a season from his striker. I think he will go for a striker in January and I wouldnt be surprised if he splashes out all of the 50p that that fan threw at Suarez during the derby!

I'm sure the club said he could have spent the Arteta money so if we have that and sell Bily we should do okay.

David Moyes is expecting a long season ahead for Everton due to the lack of a 15-20 goals a season striker.

Everton started the season sluggishly but consecutive wins against Bolton Wanderers and Wolves have lifted the team up to ninth place in the Premier League, although the gap to seventh-place Arsenal is seven points.

Financial problems have limited Moyes’ spending capabilities, and fans have protested against owner Bill Kenwright.

The top scorer at Goodison Park so far this term is Apostolos Vellios with three goals and Moyes is aware that without being able to spend big on new players, the Merseyside club could be in for a difficult season.

"I always thought this would be a hard season," Moyes said in The Sun.

"We have the core of a good team, with young up-and-coming midfielders, but we haven't got someone who is going to score 15-20 goals a season.

"We need to get to 40 points like every other team and then see where we can go from there."

Am I the only thinking we should try and get Joseph Akpala from Club Brugge? ive watched him play a few times in the Europa league and have been impressed by him. i think hes the top goal scorer in it (or one of them) i think hed cost about 8M euros which sould be within our budget, he knows where the goal is and can score with both feet and his head, and he could play as a lone striker.

thats the best vid i could find of just the goals hes scored in the 2008-2009 season and hes improved alot since then, not his best goals in that vid just goals lol

Supporters fault of course.... its us that has broken the transfer record 3 times on strikers and not managed to make any of them a success... you know what beano, your a right dic

Only 9 different strikers have scored more than 15 goals in a season over the last THREE years and Robin van Persie is the only one who didn't cost near £20 Million or more - and he wasn't even a striker when Wegner bought him!

I might be a dic - but at least I'm a dic who knows something about football like! :D

This is coming from the guy who thinks moyes cant be blamed for our striking problems....

I played at a local level. So what?

I'm sure Moyes would have spent £20 Million on a striker last Summer and last January and the Summer before if he had been given it yeah!

Manchini got to spend over £100 Million on strikers in that time!! Isn't he brilliant though!

Problem is, he was apparently close to buying Jo for £18m until City bought him.

I do not believe Moyes could buy a Striker who would score 15+ goals a season (more than 1 season), even if he had lots of money. He does not play a system which would allow it.

It is Moyes fault, not because he is short of money, because the way his tactics are. I am not saying he plays the wronge tactics, he just is unlikely to get a free scoring striker.

I hope that Drenthe is back fit but if not I would keep Bily in just for this one. I would play Heitinga if Distin is still out but I would play Distin if he is back fit. I would also keep Cahill in the side as I think he played quite well against Bolton and I think he would link up well with Vellios, who is in my eyes more suited to playing up front on his own.

After reading the story on the homepage anyone else get the feeling that Moyes might be giving him one last chance before the January window?

He's praising the lad and saying he had a good game against Bolton and asking him to go out and prove he can do it again...maybe against Stoke? If he does get another run out and doesn't do as well if not better then Bolton game I think it may be his last here.

Got a feeling, we going to take out our frustrations on Stoke City on Sunday. We have had problems in the scoring dept this season for sure but Im sure its gonna click soon and what better day then Sunday. Stoke got the Europa Mickey mouse game on Thursday night so that will help too. Will be an emotional day as we pay our respects to a fellow Evertonian too, Gary Speed RIP. Lets make Gary proud...

In the summer we sold 3 strikers vaughn, yakubu and beckford... what im wondering is if moyes knew vaughn had gone and was trying to move yakubu on why didnt he loan in a striker at that point? before the yakubu and beckford deal was done

I think he's good enough to get a lesser Premier League team or at least top Championship team. He needs the experience and I know a lot of you are going to bite my head off for saying this but he so poor defensively that he does need some practice in order for him to become a better player. I have no doubt he'll be a great player when he's older but as for now he needs training and experience.
