Proud Everton Under-21s captain Jonjoe Kenny is confident he can lead the young Blues to victory against Liverpool this evening.
The mini-derby takes on extra significance with both teams in contention at the top end of the league table.
Everton currently sit seventh – but it is so congested at the summit that David Unsworth’s side are only three points behind leaders Manchester United.
Liverpool are two places above Everton, though only on goal difference.
It means that Kenny is not only out to secure bragging rights but also a win that will maintain the Under-21s’ title push.
He said: “As a scouser, this is my biggest game of the season. I love playing against Liverpool and it can get heated but that is where we have to keep calm and play our football.
“Form goes out of the window in derbies – it is about who wants to win it the most.
“We have good character and the lads are in good shape so I know we can go out there and win.”
Tonght’s clash with Liverpool takes place at Chester’s Deva Stadium, following the announcement last week that it was being switched from Langtree Park in St Helens.
Kick-off is at 7pm – we will have regular updates from the match on our official Twitter account
