Aren't taxi drivers supposed to know their territory inside out?
Every one-way system, every stop sign, every shortcut?
Not the fellow who was tasked with driving the Everton media team out to the suburbs of Philadelphia to watch our Under-18s in action against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday.
We should have known it wouldn't be a straightforward trip when the first potential driver claimed never to have heard of the Episcopal Park complex where the game was taking place.
Fearing the worst, we procured a printed route with directions from the hotel and thrust it before the next driver along.
He seemed happy enough and began poking away at his sat-nav. Five minutes later he was still none the wiser and rang up one of his mates for help.
The phrase "I don't know where the hell I'm going," caused some worried glances to be exchanged.
He eventually decided he could cope with the first half of the route and set off.
But as he exited his comfort zone of central Philly, he was losing his way and we had to shout out blow-by-blow instructions from the back seat.
We eventually arrived just before kick-off (no tip!) and were treated to a professional performance from the Everton youngsters, who ran out 3-1 winners .
By the end they had really stamped their authority on the game and must have impressed Alan Irvine who was encouraging them from the sidelines.
Their performance was all the more impressive given the game was played in solid 30 degrees-plus heat. The remedy to this seemed to be the cutting-edge, scientific solution of covering yourself in a wet towel - it worked for the lads.
When we returned to downtown Philly we bumped into the senior Everton squad staff who had just been for a meal, no doubt putting the final touches to this week's training schedule.
It begins in earnest on Monday and evertonfc.com will be there as usual. Videos from the tour will be free this time around so we hope you enjoy hearing from the players and staff this week.
And of course, the two matches are LIVE on evertontv. COYB.
