View articlesI did say in an earlier blog that the end of November/December is the time to judge us and I'll stick by that, however we do need a change in fortune. We need someone to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.
I agree we've had some difficult games and if I'm honest I wasn't expecting too much from Man City and Chelsea away or Man Utd and Liverpool at home. However we've only won three league games this season and I'm not sure if we deserved anything from a couple of those!! Well certainly Blackburn anyway!
But.......having looked a little deeper into our current position we are only 3 points worse off than at this stage last season, we've played six of the same sides that we met in the opening 10 games of last season and have actually taken seven points from those six games as opposed to five from the same games against those same teams last season!! Confused??
Yes, even I'm not sure what all that tells me! Maybe I should just keep it simple and state that looking at our next three matches those are the ones we need to be winning.
It's the Wolves next and having watched their victory over Wigan in their last match I'll be disappointed if we don't take all three points, primarily because Wigan had a host of chances that they failed to convert in that game.
They'll be dogged and determined I'm sure but they'll also be beatable and I'm sure I'll be saying exactly the same for our following fixtures at Bolton and at home against Stoke.
Those three games will give us a much better indication of where we are this season and where we are heading in the long term.
Just as a footnote, nice to know that we will now be in the history books as the last visiting team to record a victory at St James Park!! Just a shame it was way back in March and not last weekend!!
