Only once previously have the teams met at a neutral venue in the FA Cup - in March 1915 the Toffees travelled to Villa Park for the semi final on the trail of a league and cup double but were beaten by goals from Jimmy Croal and Harold Halse. Chelsea were beaten 3-0 in the final by Sheffield United although Everton went on to clinch a second league title.
The most recent meeting between the team in the competition was three seasons ago, when a 1-1 draw at Goodison - James McFadden scoring for Everton with Frank Lampard equalising - was followed by a 4-1 win for the London side in the replay 11 days later, with Robben, Lampard (pen), Crespo and Terry netting for the home side with Mikel Arteta (pen) scoring for the Blues.
The two league meetings this season have ended goalless, at Goodison in December and in London in the midweek following both sides' victories in the semi finals. The last win for either side being Chelsea's 1-0 win at Goodison in the league during April 2008.
This is the first FA Cup final to be contested between two sides whose two league meetings during the campaign had been goalless.
The most recent meeting in any cup competition was 2007/08 when the two sides clashed in the Carling Cup semi final - Chelsea running out 3-1 winners on aggregate with a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge (Wright-Phillips and a Lescott own goal for the home side and Yakubu for the visitors) being followed by a 1-0 win for the London club at Goodison with Joe Cole netting.
The only other cup meeting between the sides under David Moyes' tutelage at Everton came in the same competition in December 2002, with Chelsea running out comfortable 4-1 victors at Stamford Bridge.
With Chelsea winning the other two ties when the sides have been drawn together in the League Cup (in 1985/86 and 1992/93), the Toffees will be hoping to improve on their overall cup record against the Stamford Bridge outfit, which reads:

Everton have gone 22 matches in all competitions (17 league, 3 League Cup, 2 FA Cup) without recording a victory over Chelsea - the last being 2-1 in November 2000. The run consists of eight draws and 14 defeats.
Since November 1994 Everton have recorded just two wins in 34 matches between the clubs.
Chelsea's current 22-match run without defeat is the longest for any team against the Toffees in history; unbeaten streaks against Everton:
22 Chelsea 2000 to date
20 Man United 1995-2005
16 Portsmouth 1947-1957
15 Liverpool 1971-1978
15 Huddersfield 1922-1927
Everton have failed to score in the past four meetings between the clubs.
