Top Chefs Pass On Culinary Tips At Youth Zone

Young children attending Everton in the Community’s twice-weekly Youth Zone at The People’s Hub were in for a treat last week when local catering company Carrington’s visited Liverpool 4 to create a pop-up restaurant for them. 

The Club’s official charity was selected as Carrington’s 2018-19 Charity of the Year and through a series of events and fundraising, have currently raised more than £3,000 to support EitC in delivering its life-changing work across Liverpool.

Fresh from catering for the Royal visit to Merseyside, Carrington’s Director, and former Master Chef of Great Britain, Darren Wynn and his team of chefs transformed The People’s Hub into a pop-up restaurant for the evening to provide the Youth Zone participants with a nutritious and substantial meal.

More than 100 young people from across L4 enjoyed an engaging and educational session with Carrington’s, learning how to prepare a healthy and delicious meal on a budget as well as picking up plenty of tips from the culinary experts.

The Youth Zone operates twice a week and provides a safe and nurturing environment for young people aged 5-19 to have fun, while developing confidence and raising their aspirations.

It engages with more than 100 children from Liverpool 4 each week and combines football and sports sessions with workshops on topics including healthy lifestyles, road safety and employability, as well as educating youngsters on the dangers of gang violence, drugs and alcohol. 


Ant Harden, Everton in the Community’s Safe Hands and Breathing Space Project Manager, said: "It was fantastic to have Carrington's come in and cook food for all the young people. 

"The staff were great with the kids, and it was clear to see that the kids enjoyed preparing and eating the food. There was also an educational and nutritional element to the session, that will benefit our young people and families. We are looking forward to having Carrington's return at some point in the future."

Darren Wynn, Director of Carrington’s Catering, added: “Our chefs from Carrington’s are committed to helping Everton in the Community in future projects and it was a total pleasure and eye opener working alongside these amazing children.”

The team at Carrington’s has supported Everton’s official Charity by taking part in the Goodison Zip Slide, Goodison Sleepout and they will be taking part in the Snowdon by Night Challenge in March.
