Next Stage Youth Development has pledged its support to Everton in the Community’s L4 Youth Zone project, offering young people aged between seven and 19 the chance to play and develop in a safe and nurturing environment.
Supporting young people coming out of the care system and helping them into independent living, Next Stage Youth Development is a subsidiary of Next Stage Ltd which has been providing care and support services for vulnerable adults in the north west since 2002. The support of Next Stage Youth Development will see the organisation sponsor EitC’s Youth Zone programme for 12 months, funding the activities and delivery for local children in the area.
In 2016, Everton in the Community identified a need in the local area for a twice-weekly youth zone which would support young people in the local area. The EitC Youth Zone provides youngsters with a safe and secure environment to enjoy fun and engaging activities whilst EitC staff support the young people and help them develop coping strategies and exploring personal problems whilst helping them work in a team and enhance their emotional resilience and confidence.
Up to 120 young people attend each session and, as well as fun and engaging activities, the Youth Zone also delivers workshops highlighting the plight of gang crime, knife crime, drugs and sexual health.
Next Stage Ltd Managing Director, Paul O’Rourke, said: “We are thrilled to be supporting such an incredible programme. Seeing these young people so eager to enter the L4 Hub before it’s even open for the session is heart-warming, it demonstrates how much it means to these young people, some of whom are severely disadvantaged. It provides them with an escape and they are looked after in a nurturing environment.
“The Youth Zone embodies everything that EitC stands for; caring, compassionate, supportive, providing opportunities, we are so pleased to be able to allow this life enhancing programme to continue. Next Stage working in partnership with My Space and hope to replicate this support going forward.”
Sue Gregory, EitC Director of Youth Engagement, Employability and Sport Development, added: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Next Stage Ltd. Our Youth Zone programme is an integral part of our youth provision in L4 and it is fantastic to receive this support. Next Stage share the same vision and values of EitC and we will look to collaborate with them further to help provide opportunities to those who need it most.”
Next Stage Ltd is the first organisation to sign up to the ‘Friends of EitC’ scheme.
