Blues favourite Leon Osman joined participants from Everton in the Community’s disability programme recently as they took on Steven Gerrard and players from the Liverpool Foundation in a game of blind football at Anfield Sports and Community Centre.
Former midfielder Osman and ex-Liverpool captain Gerrard renewed their old club rivalry for the competitive fixture in support of the BT Disability Initiative.
The pair joined blind and visually impaired footballers from EitC and Liverpool Foundation, as well as players from Merseyside Blind FC, in learning the basics of blind football before taking part in small-sided games and a penalty shootout.
Everton in the Community and Liverpool Foundation work together in delivering a weekly disability session at the Anfield Sports Community Centre thanks to funding from the Premier League and the BT Disability Initiative. The collaborative work of the two charities also supports the training of Merseyside Blind FC.
‘Gerrard and Osman’s Merseyside Derby’ will air on Saturday 5 May at 11.45am on BT Sport 1.
