David Unsworth and Everton’s Under-23s team will once again be part of the Goodison Sleepout – taking place from Friday night, with more than 200 people set to be involved.
Now in its second year, the Goodison Park event is one of Everton in the Community’s toughest fundraising challenges, giving participants the chance to spend the night in one of the world’s most famous stadiums, while raising money for the Club’s official charity.
The challenge will take place throughout the evening of Friday 10 November and into the morning of Saturday 11 November.
This year the funds raised will go towards EitC’s wider initiatives, which includes the setting up of a supported living facility as part of the ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’ project that was launched by Unsworth and the Under-23s following the success of the sleepout last season.
Everton manager Unsworth spoke to evertonfc.com ahead of this year’s event and said: “Myself, the staff and all the players are looking forward to being involved in the sleepout again this year. It was a great occasion last time, although it was a tough night, especially given how cold it was. But we got through it and all the lads really took to it well, which I’m sure will be the same this time around.
“It was great to share the night with all of the supporters, too, and it’s fantastic that there are so many more taking part this year raising even more money for the great charity that Everton in the Community is.
“We are doing it for the same reasons as we did last year. There are still homeless people sleeping out in the cold every night and it is such a sad thing and we want to do everything we can to help stop this. We want to give all those people on the streets of Liverpool a helping hand and get them somewhere safe where they can get back on their feet again.”
All the participants taking part in the Goodison Sleepout have been asked to raise a minimum of £150, including a £10 registration fee, with all of the funds contributing towards life-changing projects run by Everton in the Community throughout Merseyside and beyond.
