The recent half-term saw Everton’s official charity host a community day for all ages at the People’s Hub on Spellow Lane, with more than 130 local residents and business owners attending to find out more about the help and support available from Everton in the Community.
Residents were able to explore job opportunities in the L4 area with Jobcentre, Liverpool in Work and BT Recruiting all advertising vacancies on the day, as well as money management advice and information about business start-up support.

Merseytravel were also in attendance to offer travel support on issues, such as travel passes, free bicycles and bicycle maintenance sessions.

EitC staff were on hand throughout the open day to offer educational support with Hugh Baird College in attendance to promote a variety of courses as well as Interserve, a multinational support service and construction company, showcasing their large variety of apprenticeships. Club Ambassador Ian Snodin was also present to get involved with all the activity on offer, as well as spending time chatting with local business owners and thanking them for their continued support of the Club’s work in the Blue Mile.

The day also included a host of Halloween-themed activities for local youngsters in the downstairs area of the Hub including arts and crafts, cake decorating,  face painting, halloween movie showcase and sports coaching on our Cruyff Court.

Kirkdale Community Fire Station staff paid a special visit and gave young people an insight to their community work, as well as a show and tell of the Fire Engine and the opportunity to use the apparatus.

The majority of the 131 people who attended the open drop-in were from Kirkdale or Anfield, with more than 70 percent of people having never engaged with Everton in the Community before.

Key successes on the day included three people gaining employment with B&M Bargains, six young people signing up to join the charity’s Kicks Football and Youth Zone sessions and one person setting up a bank account with Lloyds TSB.

One attendee commented, “EitC is fantastic and one of a kind”,  while it was also noted “EitC are a great neighbour to our community” and “all staff are welcoming and supportive”.
