Everton in the Community’s Executive Director Phil Duffy recently made the journey across to Lisbon to present at the annual European Football for Development Network Conference on behalf of the Club’s official charity.

Hosted at the Estadio da Luz, the home of SL Benfica, the annual conference brings together over 150 representatives from community schemes from some of the biggest clubs in European football to discuss current challenges and new opportunities in the field of Community and Social Responsibility in European football. 

Now in its eighth year, the conference included club and community representatives from the German Bundesliga, Swedish Football League, Belgium ProLeague and Tottenham Hotspur joined Everton in representing the Premier League. 

The charity’s Executive Director Phil Duffy presented at the two-day conference on the impact that Club community schemes can have on humanity and spoke to a captivated audience about how EitC brings to life the values and traditions of Everton Football Club and reaches out into the homes of those who are currently experiencing challenges in their lives.
 
Phil also spoke in detail about the charity’s ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’ campaign and the research project with Liverpool Hope University which works to measure the CSR impact of the many programmes run by EitC. He ended his presentation with a screening of the charity’s ‘Proud to be Blue’ videos which tell the story of how individuals have turned their lives around with the support of the charity. The response of delegates was powerful and positive and most complimentary about the work and impact of EitC.

The EDFN Conference also saw the launch of the #Morethanfootball Action Week, an innovative annual campaign that provides the European Football Community the opportunity to highlight the role football can play in changing people’s lives for the better. The campaign is powered by EFDN and UEFA Foundation and is supported by a wide range of football clubs, Leagues and Football Associations across Europe.
