Local businessman Gareth Boyd recently undertook the challenge of a lifetime in support of Everton in the Community.

On the weekend of 20-21 August, 44-year-old Gareth, Business Director at Adele Carr Financial Recruitment, completed the Ultra Great Britain, a unique 200 mile Ultra-Marathon following the Trans-Pennine Trail from Southport to Hornsea.

The trail follows a variety of terrain over the Pennines and combines a mixture of natural trail and urban trail, and covers towns and cities including Liverpool, Warrington, Stockport, Barnsley and Hull before ending in Hornsea within 100 hours.

Gareth decided to take on the Ultra Great Britain after completing 21 marathons over the past few years and was in search for a new challenge when he discovered Ultra Running races. Last year he took on the Ring of Fire Ultra where he ran 135 miles over three days and wanted to push himself even further this year whilst raising funds for the Club’s official charity.

Speaking upon completion of the race, an exhausted Gareth said: “The 200 mile foot race was certainly the toughest thing I have ever done. After the first 28 hours of running, at around 100 miles in, I was close to quitting and feeling extremely sleep deprived.

“A few hours’ sleep worked wonders and I continued, completing the event in sub 82 hours and finishing sixth overall. I’m delighted to have already raised over £1000 for Everton in the Community to help them continue their great work.”

Carena Duffy, Fundraising Manager for Everton in the Community, added: “Everyone at the Charity is astounded by Gareth’s continued efforts with his fundraising support. This particular challenge was really gruelling for him and we were exhausted just reading his updates.

“We are so grateful for Gareth’s generosity and determination, he really epitomises the Club’s motto ‘Nil Satis Nisi Optimum’ – thank you”.
