Everton in the Community is encouraging fans to have a spring clean and donate any old, unwanted mobile phones to the charity, with money raised from the sale of the handsets going to the Club’s official charity to enable them to continue their ground-breaking work across Merseyside.

The Club’s official charity has recently joined forces with Communications Plus Ltd, an independent franchise of O2, and the collaboration will see four recycling units positioned around Goodison Park with all donated handsets being recycled for cash by the team from the O2 shop in Aintree Retail Park.

Recycling units will be based at Everton One and Everton Two, with the two remaining drop-off points housed in the Matchday Hub at Everton Free School. The franchise team have pledged to donate 50p to the charity for every handset received with more recent models commanding a higher price.

The O2 Recycle scheme is open to everyone, whatever your network. Communications Plus Ltd are also able to accept donations of MP3 players/iPods, handheld games consoles, tablets, cameras and Kindles.

The generosity of Communications Plus Ltd has continued with the news that the Aintree O2 branch will also be providing bottled water and other refreshments for all EitC People’s Picnics, which are held at Goodison Park and provide entertainment, a hot meal and food/toiletry packages to families in need.

Amanda Chatterton, EitC Corporate Partnerships and Events Manager, said: “We would like to issue a call to arms to all fans to have a spring clean and bring your old handsets to Goodison and drop them off at our various recycling units. All proceeds from the sale of the mobile phones will continue helping the charity to deliver its ground-breaking and life-changing programmes.

“Everyone connected with the charity is also extremely grateful for the kind donation of O2 water for the People’s Picnic. It’s a great way to put something back into the local community.”

Lydia Paxton, Marketing Manager for Communications Plus, added: “The team at the O2 shop in Aintree are proudly supporting fundraising for Everton in the Community by helping to recycle unused mobile phones in return for cash.  If you have an unused mobile, please bring it along to a home game and deposit it in the marked O2 recycling bins.”
