Tim Howard is relishing the challenge posed to his first-team position by the arrival of Slovakian international Jan Mucha.
Both players reported for duty at Finch Farm this week after being granted extra-time to recuperate following their World Cup exertions.
And the US international admits he has seen enough from Mucha, both in South Africa and in training this week, to suggest he has a battle on his hands to maintain his position as David Moyes' first choice keeper.

Is it a challenge the US international is looking forward to?
"Definitely," he told evertontv. "I keep saying that I enjoy competition. That's what gets me out of bed and that's what I thrive on. I love to win and hate to lose and so winning that competition makes me go.
"I have won a few battles and lost a few. Jan has come in having played in the World Cup and is a really good guy. We need that at Everton and the manager seems to continue to bring in players to create that competition. That is happening across the league so you have to have that, it's the way football is going nowadays."

Ricky Jervis
Tim you are a true pro and by far the best and most consistant keeper in the premier league last year, having Jan in the squad will be good for you not only in keeping you at the top of your game but also cover in the early cup games so you can rest and not play Injured as you did at times last year IMWT
