More From Pre-Season
Jan Mucha
Jan Mucha is ready to fight Tim Howard to be first choice goalkeeper at Everton.
Mucha, Slovakia's World Cup keeper, joined the Toffees earlier this summer from Polish outfit Legia Warsaw.
He and Howard returned to Finch Farm this week after their extended breaks and the 27-year-old custodian told evertontv he isn't here to make up the numbers.
He said: "Obviously the standard at Everton is higher than before but I haven't come here to sit down and watch. I expect to compete for the first spot and my ambitions are very high."
Mucha could stake his claim as early as this weekend when Everton head to Norwich for a pre-season friendly.
Until then though, he's enjoying being part of a Premier League club and taking advantage of the World Class facilities the Blues offer.
He continued: "I would say that many clubs in Europe would be jealous of such a training ground. The conditions here are of a really high standard.
"I have heard about the Premier League, to me it is the best league and I have been watching for a long time.
"After a four week holiday the first week is always the hardest but I have done pre-seasons before and it has become quite normal."
As well as improving on the pitch, the Slovak number one is also planning to learn some key skills off it.
"I am afraid when I was back home and in education I was studying German!" he revealed through a translator. "I have been learning English for four or five months - just the basics - but I am starting lessons from today so I apologise for not being fluent enough to do this interview myself!"

Great attitude Let him have a run at Norwich Moysee we have a great Keeper in Timmy but the additional pressure will be a compliment to the side I believe Timmy Howard was the most consistant keeper in the league last year so Jan has laid down the challenge Great to hear

Jan, Welcome! I think the whole team will be in your position, almost no one is guaranteed a place - which is brilliant! I'm a very big Howard fan, he is pretty much the perfect goalie, but it's nice to have someone behind him who really means business and will turn up the heat! Good luck!

That is certainly the right attitude! I mean, I love timmy Howard as much as anyone, but if Jan proves himself, then so be it. That's the same for all players competing for positions across the park. At the very least it means we can rest players in busy weeks with FA Cup games and league games. I wouldn't be apologising for not speaking English though, as long as you can communicate in some way easily with the boys on the field, we couldn't care if you were mute! Good luck Jan.

I'm getting a good feeling about the forthcoming season, players wanting to fight for places in the first team, good pre-season results and players returning to fitness. Bring it on. COYB

looking forward to seeing him push for a place. If we have two good goalkeepers fighting for the jersey that can only make them both perform better.
