This season the Premier League has introduced a new rule whereby Clubs will name a 25-man squad for the first part of the season.
The list must be finalised on 1 September 2010, after the summer transfer window has closed.
Managers will then draw their squads from this 25-man party, which can not be changed until the January transfer window.
The rules state that the squad must contain at least eight ‘home-grown' players, with that term meaning they have spent three years at an English or Welsh club between the ages of 16 and 21.
The 25-man squad can be supplemented by any player who was under 21 years of age on 1 January this year.
The papers are claiming that the new rules will have a big effect on the likes of Manchester City who have an expensively assembled international squad.
evertonfc.com has examined the current squad and discovered that the Blues are comfortably within the Premier League parameters.
* denotes a ‘home-grown' player, as defined by the Premier League rules.
^ denotes a player under the age of 21 on 1 January 2010
In total the list above contains 29 players, nine of whom are ‘home-grown' and seven of whom were under 21 on 1 January 2010.

if we register the first 25 man squad...and we add some players in january transfer windows means some of the original 25 man has to be kicked out? does it work that way?

so if we have 22 of our 25 allowed that gives us three new signings or loans, obviously we will keep one place spare for Landon in January, so who else do you want??? because there are surely a lot of players from the other prem clubs that if they don't make their clubs list will want loan moves and will prefer to go to another prem club than drop down the leagues

Another point, I think the 25 man rule should be entended to 26 and include the manager, therefore rewarding clubs with an extra overseas or Bristish player if they use British Managers. Can only be good for our local National Sides.

Oh and further to my last comment, I wonder what the punishment would be if a club fail to include 8 home growns? Would they be forced to put youngsters in who are never going to get a game and would there be some sort of fine/ points docked for submitting a squad that doesnt have the eight?

Cant see this affecting us too much. We have enough 'home grown players' to meet the criteria and they are players who would be in and around the first team even without this rule. Will be interesting to see how it affects the likes of City and our neighbours though.
