Everton have kicked-off their defence of the Milk Cup trophy in fine form with an emphatic 7-0 win in their first outing of the Northern Ireland Milk Cup Junior Section.
The Blues are currently in Northern Ireland looking to retain the title they won last year and set the standard in their opener by thumping Mexican outfit FC Puebla.
A brace from Conor Grant, a goal apiece from Liam Donnelly and Yones Felfel and a hat-trick from Chris Long completed the Toffees’ tally.
But as Everton are looking to take the trophy back to Merseyside for a third consecutive year, Everton Under-16s coach Sean Lundon says its a case of starting from scratch year on year as the age groups progress.
“Chris Long, who started off with a hat-trick, also got on the scoresheet in last year’s final, so it’s another great start to the Milk Cup for him,” said Lundon.
The Blues' schedule doesn't pause though as they take on County Antrim this afternoon at Coleraine’s Anderson Park.
And Lundon knows the opponents will be looking to respond from their 1-0 defeat to Dundalk.
“It will probably be a lot more physical than we had against Puebla and, with respect to them, it will be a tougher challenge against Co Antrim,” Lundon continued.
"Coming over to the tournament the last few years, we know that when we face a local side then we are in for a very difficult game.”
