DONOVAN'S GOAL RELIEF

Donovan's Goal Relief

Landon Donovan was relieved to make up for his missed chance at Tottenham by signing off at Goodison with a goal.

The American scored in the 5-1 rout of Hull City on Sunday, just a week after missing a chance to draw the Blues level at White Hart Lane where the game ended with a 2-1 defeat.

"Last week was tough," Donovan told evertonTV.  "As an athlete unfortunately you are judged on a few seconds at a time.

"When I think of everything at Everton I want to think of the trip as a whole and think that I have been successful but in those moments it is hard as an athlete.

"After the manager named the team and I knew I wasn't starting I made sure I was going to be ready because I felt pretty bad after last week so I wanted to make some sort of contribution.”

The LA Galaxy striker is set to return to the States for the start of the MLS season after Saturday's trip to Birmingham.

Donovan says it was especially poignant for him to score in his final outing in front of the Goodison crowd.

"It has been fantastic and I could never have expected when I got here that it would turn out like this.

"The fans want you to play as hard as you can when you are out there," explained Donovan.  "That is what I like to give when I am out there and they want to see the team win.

"As nice as it was to score against Hull it is much nicer to win and when you have that in common with the fans I think there is a connection there."

Galaxy's opening game of the MLS season is on 27 March against New England.

LA Galaxy's head coach Bruce Arena confirmed: "Landon will be back here March 15. We're being consistent with everything we've said all along."

So is he leaving for sure? We'll miss you a lot Landon, you've got class on and off the field and are trully comitted to Everton, exactly what we need! I must admit I had my dobts, like others, when he came but he's a world class player and he showed it the way it has to be done, with commitment, passion and respect. Our american friends will have more information than me for sure, but I cannot understand how MLS don't let their superstar grow as a player, he deserves it! Nevertheless, I keep the faith and hope to see you back on Goodison next season Landon! With you, we'd have one of the best midfields in the world. For once, I'll cheer for the USA in the WC. Good luck Landon and thanks for all!

Is this now 100% sure? This feels like a forced break up! Especially because I really felt Donovan never played his best, and given a full season his scoring touch will assuredly grab hold. I think there will be a strong backlash and jeering in the states while Donovan plays for the MLS. Let's just hope Moyes can negotiate his return because there are many teams interested in signing him and I think MLS are trying to get the most they can. But it's not about the money anymore, it's about how great Everton fans and the team have been. This bond has made a lasting impression on American fans and the Don himself. This is about doing whats right- I hope to see #9 roaming Goodison for keeps next season! Thank you Everton faithful. I don't think you realize how much your support has endeared fans here in the US. COYB!!! (and keep your goalie he's good too!)

Give LAG as much money as they want, within reason. I say that because we've got a solid back line now with a bit of cover, and if we get Landon a very strong midfield when all fit. That means in the summer we only need one more striker that can score goals and with that we will be a match for anyone!

I Love You Landon! I so wished you could have stayed for longer but that doesn't seem possible, as LAG are demanding you back (for witch i don't blame them) as you are a WORLD class player. I hope they let you come to us in the summer, they should realize that the Premier League is far better than the MLS and a move to everton would further his career. Thats if shallow pockets Bill can cough up a few quid. USA! USA! COME ON EVERTON SIGN HIM UP.

I hope D/M will try to get MLS to agree to give him first option to sign Donovan in the summer if he become`s available, we all want him to stay and I don`t think Donovan is in arush to return to the U.S.
