David Weir has admitted he was 'shocked' after suffering yet another setback to his season during Wednesday night's reserve defeat to Blackburn Rovers.
The Blues' defender, making his competitive comeback after a knee injury, was sent-off with seven minutes remaining for an alleged kick on defender Lorenzo Amoruso.
Weir, who insists he did not lash out at the Italian, now faces the prospect of a three-match Premiership ban unless the appeal the Blues plan to lodge is successful.
"I was completely shocked by the referee's decision," he said. "I wasn't even expecting him to speak to me to be honest. I just tried to get the ball back.
"The referee said I kicked him, which I didn't do. It's a massive disappointment and not an ideal situation because I'm looking at a suspension after just coming back from injury."
Everton officials plan to view video evidence of the incident in the next 24 hours and 33-year-old Weir is hoping that a second look at the incident by the referee could result in the card being rescinded.
He added: "I hope common sense will prevail and that there's a video that shows I didn't kick him and it will get over-turned."
